Connecting Your Data

Introduction

The first step in connecting your data is ensuring the templates are set up correctly:

Place the Power BI Template and the Excel Template files in the same folder.
Open the Power BI template by double-clicking on the file.
Open the Excel template file in Excel.

Save the Power BI and Excel templates in the same folder for smooth data connection.

Open the Power BI template by double-clicking the file.

In Power BI, ensure the data source is correctly linked to the folder containing the templates:
- Navigate to "File" > "Options and Settings" > "Data Source Settings."
- Confirm the folder path is correct.
Open your Excel model file (named My Excel Model) and locate the relevant tab.
Move or copy this tab into the CraftedBI Excel template:
- Right-click on the tab in My Excel Model, select "Move or Copy," then choose the CraftedBI Excel template as the destination and check "Create a Copy."

Verify the data source path in Power BI to ensure it links to the correct folder.

Right-click on the tab in 'My Excel Model' and select 'Move or Copy.

The copied tab appears in the CraftedBI Excel template, ready for data connection.

The final steps involve connecting your data and refreshing the dashboard:

In the CraftedBI Excel template, connect your data:
- Link all the blue and red cells in the tab to your data.
Save the Excel template after completing the connections.
Return to Power BI and refresh the template:
- Click the Refresh button on the Home tab in Power BI.
Verify your numbers:
- Ensure the numbers in the dashboard match those in your Excel model.

Connect the blue and red cells in the CraftedBI Excel template to your data.

Save the Excel template after connecting your data.

Refresh the Power BI template using the Home tab button and verify your numbers.
